'Best opportunity' ... by Miles

Zalewski's 'best opportunity' by Miles

North Lakes’ Miles Zalewski is gearing up for  what has been described as the “best opportunity he’s ever had” in the boxing ring.

The 31-year-old who trains at All Star Boxing Academy in PCYC Pine Rivers, faces unbeaten Paul Fleming in Newcastle on July 7.

It is part of the undercard to the super welterweight clash between Tim Tszyu and Michael Zerafa – billed as the biggest boxing event in Australia this year.

'Tough fight'

Zalewski’s manager Phil Murphy, from Oxmar Properties, said taking on Sydney-based Fleming would be a “tough fight”.

Fleming, 33, has won 27 and drawn one of his 28 professional fights. Zalewski has won eight and lost one of his contests.

“Miles is very excited about the fight,” said Murphy, “it’s an opportunity to go places. In fact, it’s the best opportunity he’s had.

“Miles is 31 and only had nine pro fights. If he takes on good fighters and does well he can go up the ladder very quickly.”

Four-some Larfield

Vegas Larfield, who also trains at All Star Boxing Academy, stopped John Min in the third round of their fight at Nissan Arena, Nathan on June 19.

Min was a late replacement and proved awkward and durable, but highly-rated Larfield steadily took control of the bantamweight fight.

Larfield now has four wins from four bouts and will also make the trip to Newcastle, but is waiting to see who will be his opponent.

Top ranking

All Star colleague Liam Wilson will put his unbeaten record from nine fights on the line when he faces Joe Noynay on the same July 7 show.

Wilson will be fighting for a top 15 ranking in three of the four boxing sanctioning bodies.

Cruiserweight Austin Aokuso, who is also managed by Phil Murphy, won his pro debut at Nathan with a second round knockout and will fight again on July 28.
