World's biggest swing hits to be performed in Redcliffe

Music lovers of all ages can relive hits by artists such as Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr and Ella Fitzgerald at a new show coming to the Redcliffe Entertainment Centre this month.

Gold-coast based performers Greg Aspeling and Vanessa Krummenacher will take to the stage on Friday, March 25 as part of their upcoming show, titled Come Fly With Me.

Greg and Vanessa, along with guest singer Trina Lincoln and a 12-piece swing band, will serenade the audience with their own renditions that mirror popular singers from the past up to the present.

Normally Greg performs the show with his daughter Katey, but this time she was unable to make it due to her son’s first birthday.

Speaking to Moreton Daily, Greg says he is excited to bring his new show to Moreton Bay audiences.

“We had a two year pause due to COVID, but that gave me a lot of time to reflect on how I wanted to revamp the show,” Greg says.

“This show is altered slightly with a few different songs for the audience to sing along to.

“It’s also going to be funny as we have some different skits throughout the show, including one about Marilyn Monroe.

“It’s going to be a really fun show for everyone.”

While the concert is full of number one hits, there is one song that Greg loves to perform more than any other.

“I love My Way (by Frank Sinatra) – It’s one of my favourite songs to sing,” Greg says.

“There’s so much emotion in the song and I think my voice reflects that.”

As an artist, Greg says it’s important to really take notice of what the lyrics are saying.

“I love understanding what they lyrics are saying and the stories behind them,” he says.

“When I go out on stage and sing these songs, knowing that people have already experienced this, I really feel it too.”

A life-long love for Sinatra

Having been a fan of swing music his entire life, Greg says he is “fascinated” by how artists like Frank Sinatra continue to inspire artists today.

“Frank had such a big influence on the music industry, and still continues to inspire artists today, like Rod Stewart and Lady Gaga, just to name a few,” he says.

As stated on his website, Greg believes his love for swing music was instilled in him before he was even born, when his parents and extended family would gather around the piano at family gatherings in his hometown of Cape Town in South Africa.

His family would sing along to the likes of Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole, Dinah Washington and Perry Como.
