World within reach for Law

World within reach for Law

Deception Bay boxer Waylon Law is determined to secure his first IBF world ranking when he steps into the ring at Eatons Hill Hotel tomorrow (March 5).

Law faces on Brisbane’s Justin Frost for the IBF Asia Oceania Super Lightweight title with the winner getting a world ranking in this division’s top 15.

“I’ve never been in this position before and I’m not going into this fight to lose,” says the Deception Bay Boxing Club star.

Training so hard

“I feel amazing and have been training so hard for this. We’re into the last bit of the (pre) fight camp, levelling off. It’s been a long camp, but good.”

This will be the third time Law and Frost have fought in the last six months and each fight has been labelled one of the ‘fights of the year’.

Law took the first one ending Frost’s unbeaten run, but the Iceman reclaimed the Australian title in a rematch.

They were decided first on a split decision and then a rare majority decision by the ringside judges.

Lesson learned

“We’re spent over an hour in the ring, so we know each other quite a bit,” said Law, adding he has been “working of a few things” in his fight plan.

“He’s a very strong come-forward type of fighter, so we’re preparing for that.

“The last fight was not a lost, it was a lesson to be learned, a speed bump. I didn’t take this third fight to lose.”
