Work to start on new Bunnings

Caboolture will build its way out of the COVID-led recession with three major developments approved for 2021 – including a $32 million Bunnings Warehouse.

The region’s newest Bunnings will anchor the Big Fish Business Park, formerly the Sungate Business Park, on the corner of the Bruce Highway and Pumicestone Rd.

Work is expected to start mid this year and be completed in the first half of 2022. It will be slightly bigger than the Bunnings at Morayfield and will create more than 100 local jobs.

400 cars

Bunnings Area Manager Emily Sweet said the company was “currently reviewing the conditions” around the approval from Moreton Bay Regional Council.

It will include the main warehouse, outdoor nursery, timber trade sales area, café and playground on more than 13,000sqm with parking for 400 cars.

“The development represents a significant investment in the local community and will provide greater convenience to residents living in Caboolture and the surrounding suburbs,” says Ms Sweet.

Sending signal

A short drive down the highway, developments have been approved for Kel Stanton’s mobile diesel service and Aspect Cabinet Makers at the Corporate Business Estate, on the intersection with Bribie Island Rd.

“I want to thank our planners for working so co-operatively with Caboolture luminaries Kel Stanton’s and Aspect Cabinet Makers,” says Mayor Peter Flannery.

“I also want to welcome this massive Bunnings investment by Wesfarmers, which will send a signal about the potential of Moreton Bay Region and help attract more investment.”

“I see this wave of investment in Caboolture as cause for region-wide optimism about next year.”

Success story

Councillor Adam Hain (Div 3) said Caboolture was on track to become the region’s great success story.

“As a Morayfield local and a chippie in a past life, I know firsthand how construction and major projects can transform a town.

“We need new job opportunities like this in the northern stretch of our region because we have a higher unemployment rate than the state average.”

Snapped up

Cr Brooke Savige (Div 1) said $90 million Corporate Park East Industrial Estate has 40 hectares of land for small and large businesses, with lots over 1000sq m. “These lots are being snapped up at a phenomenal rate,” she says.

Cr Tony Latter (Div 12) says: “It’s exciting to see developments like these that will support jobs in and around Caboolture and build momentum that will hopefully attract further investment in our region.”
