Woodford Memorial Hall getting ready for summer

Woodford’s Memorial Hall will be cooler for users this summer, with new air conditioning systems earmarked for the building.

Moreton Bay Regional Council has awarded a $454,500 contract for cooling systems for the Memorial Hall, with installation expected to start this month.

Councillor Tony Latter (Div 12) says the upgrade will benefit the whole Woodford community.

“The Woodford Memorial Hall is used by many locals on a weekly basis, from martial arts and dance classes to children’s library activities and support groups,” Cr Latter says.

“It can get quite warm in Woodford, so I know many locals will be happy to know they can use the hall to stay out of the sun and stay safe inside thanks to the new air conditioning.”

Cr Latter says he hopes the air conditioning will attract more community events, private functions and activities that foster community pride and a healthy lifestyle.

"This upgrade will be go hand-in-hand with the recent $20,896 grant we provided to the Woodford Memorial Community Centre Associate to install solar power at the site," he says.

Mayor Peter Flannery said an investment in community infrastructure was an investment into a better lifestyle for locals.

“This will now allow residents to host and participate in community events and activities all year round, no matter how warm the weather is,” he says.

“This is just the start as we been upgrade a number of our 46 community halls across Moreton Bay Region to improve their usability, including Rothwell, Upper Caboolture and Deception Bay.”
