Watch Olympics on big screen

Watch Olympics on big screen

We may have to wait until Wednesday to see if we’ll be hosting the 2032 Olympics, but regardless we’ll be celebrating the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games with a live screening event at Petrie this weekend.

The Mill Playspace will be transformed into a pop-up fan zone where you can get into the Olympic spirit and cheer on our Aussie athletes on the big screen in an outdoor loungeroom from 1pm on Saturday, July 24.

It will be a chance to watch a mix of archery, tennis, gymnastics, soccer and swimming.

Mayor Peter Flannery is encouraging locals to come together as a community and get behind our Aussie athletes competing abroad at this difficult time.

“Although we can’t travel to Tokyo to support them at the Games, events like this provide us with the opportunity to come together as a community and show our support from afar,” Mayor Flannery says.

“I know that so many athletes would be overjoyed to know that they have this level of support coming from their community back home.

“So, we’re throwing a COVID-safe, family friendly event to get Moreton Bay Region into the Olympic spirit.

Be part of the action

“Kids can test out their Olympic skills with the ‘come and try’ activities on offer like the inflatable soccer target shootout, or getting their adrenaline pumping in an action-packed game of archery tag,” Mayor Flannery says.

“Parents can put their feet up and enjoy the delicious food vendors while listening to some live tunes. While you’re at it, don’t forget to check out the new play space and waterpark onsite.”

Mayor Peter Flannery says it will be exciting to see the local community celebrating the Games after they were postponed in 2020.

“Even more exciting though will be if we win the 2032 bid because The Mill is one of a handful of sites in South East Queensland that will score major new government investment,” he says.

“This would be a huge opportunity for us to showcase what our region has to offer. We are working to make our economy bigger, bolder and brighter and the boost to tourism and infrastructure that the Olympics would bring would benefit our region for years to come.”

Come along with your family and friends and experience the Tokyo Olympics in a whole new way.

Olympics Live is a free event presented by Moreton Bay Regional Council. The Mill Playspace is at 1 Moreton Drive, Petrie.
