Warriors launch member drive

The Vodafone Warriors want to be the most supported club in Australasia this year, and they believe their growing fan base in the Moreton Bay Region is key to making this happen.

Chief executive Cameron George says they have to beat West Coast Eagles’ 101,000 members to earn the title, and a $10 Vodafone Warriors Supporter offer for the month of October should help the cause.

It will also help grow the game with 50 per cent of each membership to be evenly dispersed among junior clubs on the Central Coast, in Redcliffe, Tamworth and Tenterfield as well as New Zealand.

“We see clubs in Australia, with supporter bases in excess of 100,000, and we want to finish ahead of that to close out a year that has demanded that we challenge ourselves,” George says.

Embracing the Warriors

He says the Warriors have become ‘everyone’s second team” after a season which threw more challenges at them than others in the NRL, due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.

“If we can continue to improve, and swim against the current, we’ll get more and more support,” George says.

“We want to formalise it and give back to junior rugby league in regions that mean something to us.”

The club is keen to invest in junior rugby league, so clubs can buy more equipment or even reduce fees in some cases.

“It’s a great way to invest in the area. We call on everyone to buy a membership,” he says.

“The more people that sign up, the more that will come back. It’s got the potential to go sky high. There’s no ceiling to it.”

Value for money

In addition to the junior rugby league contribution, the 2021 Vodafone Warriors Supporter offer gives subscribers a 10 per cent discount on merchandise purchases through the Warriors Super Store as well access to club news, team announcements and 2021 season previews.

George says the club is tens of thousands of memberships away from their goal, but it’s achievable when the number of rugby league fans in regions like Moreton Bay is taken into account. A large population of New Zealand expats will help.

Priced from NZ$10, plus GST, the 2021 Vodafone Warriors Supporter offer is available online until October 31, 2020.
