North Harbour Heritage Park will host its first evening event this month, as families throughout Moreton Bay help raise funds to battle leukaemia.
Leukaemia Support Queensland’s first Shine Bright for Leukaemia walk will be the finale of a fun afternoon in the Heritage Park Burpengary East, on Sunday (May 16) from 3-7pm.
Trees along the 1.3km walk will be lit up and the procession will wind its way along the park’s Heritage Trail from just after 6pm.
Five hundred balloons filled with LED lights will be for sale on the night to help light up the sky, along with 1000 thunder sticks. Proceeds will go to Leukaemia Support Queensland.
There will also be live entertainment, games, jumping castle, activities, market stalls, food and beverages including guest food trucks from Bite Markets.
“With more than 800 people living with leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood cancers in the Moreton Bay region alone, its impact can be felt almost everywhere,” said Leukaemia Support Queensland president Jane McMillan.
“Quite apart from the physical toll, the intense treatment often required over many months can place enormous financial strain on families – with money raised from events like this providing a helping hand.”
North Harbour Project Director Bryan Finney said: “We’re delighted to assist in rallying the community for such a worthy cause and I encourage everyone to bring a chair and blanket and join a very memorable evening.”

A registered charity run solely by volunteers, Leukaemia Support Queensland has helped almost 400 people battling the disease over the past 16 years.
