Urban Utilities to provide relief for flood affected customers

Families who have been impacted by the recent floods are set to receive $50 off their water bills, Urban Utilities has announced.

The utility will offer $50 off water bills for their flood affected customers, as well as additional financial relief options to support those who may need it during this natural disaster.

Urban Utilities spokesperson CEO Louise Dudley said the relief measures would help support recovery and clean-up efforts across the region.

“We know people have enough to worry about right now, and we don’t want them worrying about the cost of using more water during their clean-up,” she said.

“For customers whose homes or businesses have been flood affected, we’re taking $50 off Urban Utilities’ component of the water bill.

“This is equivalent to around 30,000 litres of water which is around the volume of a small backyard swimming pool.”

Ms Dudley said the $50 relief would be automatically applied. Urban Utilities are currently working with local councils to determine which properties would receive the support measure.

Water and sewerage service charges will also be waived for customers whose homes were uninhabitable due to flood damage.

Urban Utilities is also offering payment extensions of up to 90 days for any customers who may need it, with flexible payment plans also available.

“If any customers are experiencing difficulty paying their water and sewerage bill, we encourage them to get in touch with us to discuss their circumstances,” Ms Dudley said.

“We know our community has been hit hard by this flooding event and we’re here to offer support as we continue the clean-up together.”
