Treasurer tours Dolphins’ facilities

Federal Treasurer Josh Frydenberg has toured the Dolphins’ facilities at Redcliffe today, seeing firsthand how the government’s $8 million in funding has helped shape the newest NRL club’s base.

He was joined at Dolphins HQ by Federal Member for Petrie Luke Howarth and LNP candidate for Lilley Ryan Shaw, where they had the chance to see Moreton Daily Stadium and meet head coach Wayne Bennett.

In a Facebook post, Mr Frydenberg said: “Swapped a Sherrin for a Steeden with a behind the scenes look at the NRL’s newest club, Redcliffe Dolphins, with my colleague, Luke Howarth.

“Great to chat with Wayne Bennett, a legend of the game. Even this Melbourne Storm fan will be cheering for your success in 2023.”

Luke Howarth was able to join him after recovering from COVID-19 and finishing his isolation period.

The Federal Government has contributed $8 million to the development of the stadium, which is this year also home to the New Zealand Warriors and Brisbane Roar, as well as the Redcliffe Dolphins’ Hostplus Cup side.

During a video on Mr Howarth’s Facebook page, Mr Frydenberg said it was great to be there and to meet Wayne Bennett who has great plans for the Dolphins.

“It’s also good to see the $8 million being put to work to improve the stadium to put in women’s changing rooms and to support sporting activity in this local area,” he said.

“There are challenging times as we continue to stare down COVID-19 and deal with the implications of the Omicron variant which is 75 per cent less severe than previous variants but it is putting pressure on supply chains, it is putting pressure on our health system but there are some very good economic numbers to show how the Morrison government is delivering lower taxes and more jobs for the people of Queensland.”

He said Queenslanders could be optimistic about the year ahead.
