Tourism campaign’s spring-loaded with experiences

It’s the first day of spring – the perfect time to launch a campaign to discover the Moreton Bay Region and play tourist close to home. World class attractions are just minutes away.

Visit Moreton Bay Region, the destination platform of Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism (MBRIT), is driving the campaign in partnership with Moreton Bay Regional Council.

MBRIT Chairman Shane Newcombe says it follows the successful Moreton Bay Minutes Away campaign launched last year to help the local tourism industry and people across South East Queensland who could no longer travel long distances.

“The days are getting longer and warmer, with the arrival of spring. The September school holidays are almost here and there’s a couple of long weekends in October … now’s the time to plan a break or day trip with the family,” Mr Newcombe said.

“Moreton Bay is just minutes away, so travel restrictions are not a worry and there are plenty of experiences to suit all ages from thrill-seekers, bushwalkers and nature-lovers, to those just looking for a quiet escape by the bay.

“It’s been a tough year for many of our tourism and hospitality operators, so we’re keen to showcase what they have to offer, and give residents across South East Queensland and beyond some world class options close to home.

“I think everyone has earnt a break, or at the very least, a day to remember. Supporting the local tourism sector will also give them the chance to back a local business. We can all feel good about that.”

While spreading the word about all the Moreton Bay Region has to offer is central to the campaign, there will be promotions to engage visitors and locals. Stayed tuned. All will be revealed next week.

Mayor Peter Flannery says the best way to guarantee a stress-free holiday is to holiday close to home, rather than risking flights.

“A holiday in Moreton Bay takes all the hassle away,” he says.

“Whether you want a convenient day trip in the car, a romantic getaway in the hinterland, or an affordable family holiday by the beach - we have something for everyone.

“Best of all our destinations are cheaper, our staff are friendlier than major tourism destinations and we’re so close to Brisbane that you won’t spend your whole holiday in a traffic jams with the kids trying to get to the Gold or Sunshine Coasts.

“If you don’t already know the hidden gems of our region, then this is your chance to come and play because we’re just minutes away.

“So do go chasing waterfalls, don’t stick to the kitchen table you’ve become used to.”

There are 3.6 million people living within a 100km radius of the Moreton Bay Region and the campaign aims to inspire them to head there for their next break.

“The best way to explore our region is by road and the team at Visit Moreton Bay Region has developed itineraries to suit all ages and interests,” Mr Newcombe says.

“Whether you’re keen for a day out or a mini-break, we’ve got you covered. Our team has researched the best of our region and put together plans for the perfect getaway, family holiday, girls’ or guys’ weekend, or solo adventure.

“For locals preparing to welcome family and friends for the school holidays, it’s a chance to experience somewhere new that they haven’t been to before.
