Organisers of this year’s Jetty 2 Jetty Fun Run have presented charity partner Peninsula Animal Aid with a cheque of more than $11,000 to help the organisation continue to care for animals in need.
The money was raised from entry fees and additional donations from this year’s entrants.
MBRIT Chairman Shane Newcombe has thanked this year’s Jetty 2 Jetty participants for supporting the event and helping raise so much for PAA.
“Peninsula Animal Aid is run by volunteers who have a passion for caring for animals. We’re thrilled we have been able to support their work in this way,” Mr Newcombe says.
PAA President Anne Denton says COVID-19 has negatively affected the organisation’s income and the donation is “of enormous assistance”.
“This donation will help PAA continue with the high level of care and feeding of the animals, until they find their forever homes. Vet bills alone are many, many thousands of dollars each month,” she says.
“This event provided a wonderful opportunity to promote PAA on social media and at community events. Our social media has been busier than ever.
“Financial support is our greatest need at the moment. This can be done online, or by direct deposit. As PAA is a registered charity, all donations over $2 are tax deductible.
“Other means of support are gratefully accepted, and include donating items listed on our wish list on our website, bringing your dogs to our hydro bath for low cost of $10 per dog, volunteering and buying our annual calendars which will be out in about October. Long-term, leaving a bequest in your Will is truly a gift of love.”
“It exceeded our hopes and it’s great to see just how much of an impact the running community can have to a local organisation,” Mr Almond says.
“One of the biggest benefits of putting on the Jetty 2 Jetty race is the support it brings to so many businesses and organisations across the Redcliffe peninsula. Having the opportunity to give back to our local charitable organisations means a lot to the club and its members. The services Peninsula Animal Aid provide are a cause close to many of our hearts.
“Moreton Bay Road Runners are really happy with how well this year’s race went. The atmosphere on the course was fantastic with so many runners all looking like they were having a ball. It was great to see so many people enjoying themselves on another beautiful morning on the peninsula.”
