Suttons Beach Pavilion steps up for emergency service workers

Buy a meal, and make someone’s day.

It’s the bright idea that’s making big waves in the Moreton Bay Region community in wake of the COVID-19 crisis.

Suttons Beach Pavilion, known for its fresh seafood and water views, is encouraging customers to purchase home-cooked meals for hospital staff, firefighters, police and other frontline workers.

Starting from just $11 for a meal, or five meals for $50, you can make sure a hearty (or is that, heartfelt?) and healthy meal gets delivered directly to those who need it most.

According to the owner and manager of Suttons Beach Pavilion, Oliver Thomson, it all started when a regular customer, whose husband works at the Redcliffe Hospital, placed an order for bulk meals.

“Sara wanted to buy 20 home-cooked meals for her husband and his team to enjoy while working long shifts,” explained Mr Thomson.

“We donated a further five meals and, we thought, that was that,” he said.

But it didn’t stop there. The thoughtful gesture sparked a wider ‘pay it forward’ movement with a little help from social media.

“We put the shout-out on social media and, within a week, the public had purchased over 200 meals for the hospital staff.”

Mr Thomson has praised Moreton Bay Region locals for their community spirit and willingness to spare some change for hard-working emergency services personnel.

Not wanting to stop at medical and intensive care unit staff, Suttons Beach Pavilion extended the offer of donating meals to additional emergency service workers.

This includes paramedics and ambulance drivers, firefighters, and police – the frontline workers putting their health and safety on the line during COVID-19.
