Spread kindness – businesses encouraging you to pay it forward

During times of challenge and adversity, we often look outward to see how we can assist – whether it’s a monetary donation, volunteering time, or simply ‘showing up’.

The Moreton Bay Region is no different, with businesses digging deep (despite many being hit hard themselves) to help those in need or, in the case of COVID-19, those on the front line.

VC Fruit Market at Ferny Grove recently put out the call on social media for those who may be struggling financially to collect a free box of mixed fruit and vegetables. The store has opened up its regular orders and deliveries to the broader community, and is accepting non-perishable donations to distribute.

Redcliffe restaurant Pilpel is also working with a number of groups to provide much-needed meals, and ensuring it prioritises South East Queensland suppliers, like Maleny Dairies, for in-store sales. By buying local, you are supporting local.

Digging deep for front line workers

Not all heroes wear capes. They are the ambulance drivers, doctors, nurses, emergency service workers and police, risking their health to ensure the community remains safe.

This is where businesses have collectively stepped up, with heart-warming stories of paying it forward proving just how resilient and community-minded the Moreton Bay Region is.

The Little Tree Bake & Brewhouse at Samford knows the benefits of a good-quality brew. It is offering free coffee for its local essential service workers. And it’s not alone in such generosity. Back over on the bayside, Suttons Beach Pavilion is running a new initiative called ‘Meal for a Medic’, where you can buy a meal for hard-working hospital staff.

Cheesy toast comes to the rescue again, with Sizzler stores offering free coffee and their signature cheesy snack to all healthcare workers. Simply drop into any Sizzler restaurant between 11.00am to 9.00pm and show your ID to redeem. The Great British Fryer at North Lakes is also pledging its support by giving a discount to emergency and front line workers in a bid to reward their outstanding efforts.

Big or small, it all counts.

Keeping it local

Keeping it local is what it’s all about, and businesses like Bay Boats (Scarborough) and Uno Caffe & Pizzeria (Strathpine) are doing their part to ensure doors remain open and staff keep their jobs.

Bay Boats not only employs a team of local staff, but supports other local businesses and suppliers. Meanwhile, Uno Caffe & Pizzeria has partnered with Boost Juice Strathpine to offer delivery to the community.

Make someone’s day a little brighter

We all know that the elderly, in particular, have been impacted by self-isolation and social distancing measures. With the health and wellbeing of everyone being a priority, the Moreton Bay Arts Council recently promoted the idea to ‘Adopt a Senior’. This could be as simple as checking in on your elderly neighbours, popping a note in their letterbox, or dropping off some groceries.

Paying it forward is really paying off, especially in the Moreton Bay Region. If you know of a business or group lending a helping hand within the community, let us know.
