Sporting boost for The Lakes College

Sporting boost for The Lakes College

Work has started on The Lakes College’s multi-purpose hall which will be a much-needed indoor sporting facility for the whole community.

Principal Nicole Gregory says in addition to indoor courts, the building will include additional classrooms, change rooms, amenities and a new carpark.

“The multi-purpose hall will support our exciting growing sports program, TLC Beyond, and also provide a space for the whole school to come together for assemblies and events,” Ms Gregory says.

“With a 25m pool and amenities project also commencing construction in the coming month, The Lakes College is looking forward to a new phase of engagement in our already well-established TLC Beyond extra-curricular programs.”

Both projects are expected to be completed in July 22.

Ms Gregory says the hall will help meet the needs of the growing college, offering a place for gathering and celebrating as a community.

“In addition, this facility will be central to providing opportunities for sport, a state-of-the-art indoor sports facility for training and competition, enabling our college to host a larger range of inter-school sports at our venue,” she says.

“As a community, we are keen to share our facility with sports organisations in the community who align with our values and are willing to partner with us in growing our students.”

Main features

The hall will have a timber sports floor suitable for netball, basketball, volleyball and futsal.

“Our amenities will provide change rooms and showers for athletes with internal and external access to avoid game interruptions,” Ms Gregory says.

“Without doubt, the whole community has been eagerly awaiting this project for some time. COVID in 2020 saw this project needing to be put on hold as the world took stock of what the pandemic might mean.

“Eighteen months later, we are now building this facility and our families could not be happier. As a school who values sport, our students are eager to have an indoor facility that connects with our beautiful ovals. This, along with our 25m, eight-lane pool with disability access will complete the sports precinct and assist our growing TLC Beyond Sporting Program.

“The State Government, through the Block Grant Authority, are supporting the building of our multi-purpose hall and the Pool project is the result of Federal Government support. We are grateful to both levels of government for the generosity and ongoing support they have shown our college.”
