Two major events are joining forces to form a sporting first for this region.
The Moreton Bay Running Festival and Moreton Bay Triathlon will this year become the Moreton Bay Multisport Festival.
It will be held Pelican Park, Woody Point - using the bay, foreshore and Ted Smout Bridge - to raise funds for the Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The running festival, starting in the twilight on Saturday May 14, will have distances of 1.5km, 5km, 10km and half marathon.
The triathlon will be on May 15 keeping distances of previous years.
Early bird entries are open until March 28. To register visit theeventcrew.com.au/event/moreton-bay-running-festival
Funds raised will go towards research into paediatric diseases, buying medical equipment and patient and family support at Queensland Children’s Hospital and across the state.
“Everything we do for kids and young people is only possible through the generosity and dedication of our supporters,” Children’s Hospital Foundation Acting CEO Olivia Jary said.
“It’s a true privilege that participants that participants in this year’s events will be raising awareness for the Children’s Hospital Foundation.”
Festival Director Brendan Downey said it would be an event for the “whole family”.
“We are keeping our Classic (triathlon) distance of 200m swim, 60km bike ride and 15km run, longer than the Olympic distance,” he said.
“It is a great draw card for our return participants looking to really challenge themselves.
“We’ve also opened up a bunch of entry level distances, as well as kid-friendly events.”
The Moreton Bay Multisport Festival is supported by Moreton Bay Regional Council, Tourism Events Queensland, Vorgee, Children’s Hospital Foundation and Vuly.
