Siegfried still in care

The male swan rescued from North Lakes in October with an injured leg is still being looked after by carers from Wildlife Rescue Queensland.

Wildlife Rescue Queensland president Byron Cann says Siegfried is not yet well enough to return to Odette and their offsrping, but is gradually improving.

Siegfried captured the imaginations of North Lakes residents, who have been following his progress on the North Lakes Community Facebook page.

Residents worry

With delays to his return, worried residents have been speculating about his whereabouts and whether Siegfried and Odette would have a happy and successful reunion.

Byron says swans really do mate for life, and the delay in Siegfried’s return would have no impact.

“He’s got soft tissue damage, and until it gets better it’s just a waiting game,” he says.

Eating well

Siegfried remains on anti-inflammatory medication and will have another ultrasound next week to assess the healing process and Byron says he is moving a little better.

“He’s alive and well and eating fantastically,” Byron says.

“As much as everyone wants him back, we do need to make sure he’s right.”
