Sharing secret to getting it together

Sharing secret to getting it together

Margate clinical psychologist and author Tracey Zielinski hopes her book, Get it Together Forever, will help people do just that by following simple, commonsense strategies.

With more than 20 years of experience, she has developed a simple framework to help readers step quickly and effectively away from self-sabotage and self-limiting beliefs and into the best relationship they have ever had with themselves.

Dr Zielinski says she always thought her first book would be a novel, but COVID-19 restrictions and the need to ‘see’ patients via telehealth prompted her to change tack.

“I changed the way I was doing therapy. I was using some of methods in the book but not as a system,” she recalls.

“The world is in the midst of a global pandemic. Life as we knew it has changed. As a psychologist, I along with my colleagues have seen an escalation in the demand for mental health services. The demand for crisis counselling is higher than it has ever been.

“Many people I have seen in private practice do not have significant mental health issues. They are simply struggling in the moment. It is with these people in mind that I have written Get it Together Forever.

“It is my hope that ultimately this book can help reduce psychologists’ waiting lists. Get it Together Forever is not meant to replace therapy. It is however an incredibly useful tool to allow those people who are ready and able to become more resilient to do so.”

How it works

Her system of strategies uses Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness.

Dr Zielinski says the book is in three sections which aim to be the ultimate guide in helping people gain control of their own lives, using an easy-to-read format.

She covers language-based sabotage, unconscious behaviour, cognitive thought distortion, labelling, pressure language and more.

“It’s like nothing else out there. It’s fresh,” Dr Zielinski says.

It is written in an easy-to-read format and does not get bogged down in multiple examples of behaviour.

“This is very much for anyone who is capable of reading,” she says.

“Stress is a part of life, but it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. There is now a resource, a self-help book, for want of a better description, that helps people declutter their busy lives and minds.”

Dr Zielinski is thrilled with the feedback she has received so far from readers with many saying the strategies are easy to use in everyday life.
