School holiday Guide: Moreton Bay Region

Trying to work out what you can do with the kids these school holidays? Here’s a list of some of the activities in the Moreton Bay Region, just north of Brisbane. Many are part of Moreton Bay Regional Council's Healthy & Active Moreton Kids program, which provides free and low-cost activities for children and teenagers.

Beeswax workshop

What: Using beeswax, children will be make reusable food wraps and create their own votive candle holders. Adult supervision required for children under 10.

When: April 10, 10.30am-noon

Kids Dig It! Archaeology Family Fun

What: Have you ever wondered what it is like to be an Archaeologist? In this 2-hour workshop you will participate in three activities; Archaeology in the Lab, Archaeology dig, and Archery. 

When: Monday April 12 - Friday April 16. 9am - 4:00pm. 

Where: Abbey Museum of Art & Archaeology at 1-63 The Abbey Pl, Caboolture QLD 4510.

Scooter lessons

What: Learn to ride Scooters in your local skate park – learn to drop in, fly out, or master tricks. All lessons include skate park safety and etiquette.

When: April 5, 3-4pm or 4-5pm

Try squash

What: Learn new skills and make new friends while learning how to play squash at Redcliffe PCYC.

Hip-Hop

What: Pop, lock and jump around during this fun-filled musical activity.

Gymnastics

What: Have fun playing with a wide range of gymnastic equipment that aids in development of gross motor skills and confidence. Learn to roll, cartwheel and bounce.

Table tennis

What: Bring a friend or make new ones while honing your table tennis technique, picking up new skills or just having fun playing ping-pong in a fun and safe environment.

When: April 8, 8-10am

Where: The Lakes College - Hall (parking in the upper carpark of the school, behind the Night Owl convenience store), 2 College St, North Lakes

Try hockey

What: Perfect for first-time players and those looking to develop the fundamental skills of hockey while having fun and making new friends.

When: April 8, 9.30-11am

AFL clinic

What: Learn new football skills with fun games and activities conducted by experienced AFL Queensland staff and coaches.

Bike education

What: Bicycle education and road safety training that develops skills in identifying & assessing the risks involved in riding bicycles on the road.

When: April 9, 9am-noon

Where: PCYC Redcliffe, 170 Klinger Rd, Kippa-Ring

Kids’ art

What: Be inspired by a colourful exhibition featuring the works of talented artists from Clontarf Beach State School. More than 20 works from students from Prep to Year 6, from paintings to nature-inspired sculptures. The works were created during artist Chrissy Foreman’s school-based intuitive art classes.

When: April 12-24

Learn to fish

What: Gain new skills and knowledge through shore-based fishing and education with the team from 2 Bent Rods.

When: April 10, 3-6pm

Where: Captain Cook Parade Park, Captain Cook Pde (opposite Emerald Ave), Deception Bay

Skateboarding workshops

What: Gain confidence, get comfortable with your balance and learn a whole new set of skateboarding skills with excellent coaching.

Puppet antics

What: Sing, dance and play along with the feel-good antics of Larrikin Puppets. Formally trained in the USA by Jim Henson puppeteers from The Muppets and Sesame Street, Larrikin Puppets' fast-paced, feel-good puppet show celebrates fun, kindness and diversity.

When: April 10, 2-2.45pm (Redcliffe); April 14, 3.30-4.15pm (North Lakes)

Panda Jitsu

What: Panda Jitsu is a games-based martial arts program for juniors. Martial Arts fundamentals hidden in fun games, designed for younger minds, delivered by qualified and experienced martial arts experts.

Where: North Lakes Community Centre, 10 The Corso, North Lakes

Making magic happen

What: Bring the kids and join the fun and laughter at Magic Glen’s magic show. The show is a rollercoaster ride of comedy, magic and excitement with lots of audience interaction and participation.

Pop-up play
