Roar score early home run

Brisbane Roar’s home delivery by the A-League direct to Dolphin Stadium, has been welcomed by one of the club’s rising stars Jordan Courtney-Perkins.

Roar have seven games in the first six weeks of the 2020-21 campaign including five at their new home ground – Dolphin Stadium in Redcliffe.

The home run starts against Wellington on December 29, kick-off 6pm and is followed by Sydney January 10, 3pm; Mariners January 15, 6pm; Macarthur Bulls January 25, 6pm and Melbourne City January 30, 4pm.

Fast start

“I think it’s good to get games coming quickly at the start of the season,” says Jordan, who was at Dolphin Stadium with players from Peninsula Power, North Lakes Mustangs and Caboolture for the fixture launch.

“It’s not a bad thing. It gives us a chance to really put our footprint on the league.

“We’ll still take it week-to-week but being here (at Redcliffe) early could help us set the scene (for the season).”

Exciting time

Releasing the fixtures is one of the traditional curtain-raisers to any season and the 18-year-old defender says seeing the 2020-21 list was “exciting”.

“When things like this get set in place you know it (the season) is close,” he says. “You have a long preseason and all you think about is the season starting.

“Now it’s only a month away … can’t even sleep at night!”

While every team will be looking for a winning start, consistency will also be a key according to Jordan.

Pointing the way

“A consistent season is what you look for and a consistent start is what everyone wants, that would set you up nicely.” says Jordan, who played seven matches for Roar last season.

“Every week we’ll be focusing on getting three points. You just have focus on what’s coming next.”

Brisbane Roar play each side twice and three teams three times – the 2019-20 champions Sydney, runners-up Melbourne City and Western Sydney Wanderers who finished ninth.

They also have an Anzac Day fixture at home to Melbourne City, at Dolphin Stadium, kick-off 2pm.

Building base

“I look forward to the next two years partnership with the Brisbane Roar men and an extended relationship with the women and development teams as they build a base in Moreton Bay Region,” says Mayor Peter Flannery who joined the fixture launch.

“We hope this will not only bring world class football to our region but prove that Redcliffe is ready and capable of hosting the next Brisbane-based NRL club.”
