Redcliffe centre is best in Queensland

Redcliffe Jetty Visitor Information Centre and its 56 volunteer ambassadors are the simply the best in this state.

It follows the announcement Redcliffe Jetty VIC had won Queensland’s Visitor Information Centre of the Year in the Local Government category.

Redcliffe was an “outstanding entry” said Marinella Ghion, Vice President of the Queensland Information Centre Association (QICA), which ran the awards.

“On behalf of QICA, congratulations,” Ms Ghion said, at a ceremony in the Redcliffe Jetty VIC on Friday.

It is one of eight VICs managed by Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism (MBRIT), on behalf of Moreton Bay Regional Council.

Oriana Wyrozebska, MBRIT General Manager Tourism and Investment, said it was an “incredible privileged to receive the award.”

“This VIC welcomes 6000 visitors each year and the ambassadors invest 10,000 hours of their time to provide an exceptional experience.”

Redcliffe Jetty also has a 99 per cent customer satisfaction rating with visitors who support 5600 jobs by coming into our region.

“It’s about the interaction, what you leave people with, that smile, that friendly engagement makes all the difference,” Health Minister and State Member for Redcliffe Yvette D’Ath said.

“Every business in this area needs to thank you.”

Councillor Karl Winchester (Div 6) added: “You are the front line for visitors, it’s critical the work you do here. Over the moon you have won this award.”

Anne Lewis , one of the volunteers co-ordinated by MBRIT Manager of Travel and Visitor Services Nicky Young, said the award was recognition of "hard work".

"To me, it acknowledges all the hard work volunteers and management put in to benefit the people who come here.

“It’s a privilege to work for the centre and a privilege to work with all the other volunteers.”

Laura Elmouttie, a volunteer at Redcliffe Jetty VIC for 20 years, said: “I fell in love with Redcliffe so when the opportunity came for volunteers at the Visitor Information Centre I thought I must do that.

“I feel so strongly about the place and love it so much, I wanted to pass this appreciation of the place to other visitors.

“Every shift, I leave with feeling I have promoted the place and tried to make it worthwhile for people to come back again.”
