Praise for locals staying home

Praise for locals staying home

Vision of crowds at Gold Coast, Bondi and St Kilda beaches has gone viral for all the wrong reasons, but it’s nothing but good news in the Moreton Bay Region.

CCTV footage shows locals are taking the ‘stay home’ message very seriously, with normally popular parks and beaches now empty.

Mayor Peter Flannery is praising residents for continuing to do the right thing.

“These are tough times, but our job is being made so much easier by the willing and sensible attitudes of our residents, and we thank locals for that,” Cr Flannery says.

“Government health advice is that social distancing measures will only work to prevent the spread of COVID-19 if at least 90% of Australians comply with the state and federal government’s regulations. Moreton Bay Region is clearly leading by example.

“As the nation comes to grip with the extraordinary circumstances required to fight the spread of coronavirus, Moreton Bay residents have been very co-operative and your council thanks you all so much for playing your part.”

Thanks for not being out and about | Moreton Bay Regional Council

What else is happening?

The council is also doing its bit, already approving a $15 million stimulus package has been approved and fast-tracking $11 million in business payments to boost cashflow in our community.

“Council officers are now working on Stage 2 of our COVID-19 community and local business support package which we intend to present to the newly-elected council for consideration as soon as possible,” Cr Flannery says.

“Stay safe, stay connected while in isolation, be kind to one and other and we will get through this together.”
