Polo Bears go back-to-back

North Brisbane Polo Bears have gone back-to-back in Queensland’s top water polo competition.

The Polo Bears, based at Albany Creek Leisure Centre, won a second successive Delphina Premier League women’s title.

At The Valley Pool in Brisbane, Polo Bears beat UQ Barracudas 9-6 to retain their crown and - at the end of the Premier League’s second season – remain the only holders of the trophy.

Alice Williams scored four goals, Charlize Andrews 3 and Bronwen Knox two in Sunday’s final.

Paris and Beyond

Knox became Australia’s first four-time water polo Olympian when she helped the Stingrays to the quarter-finals in Tokyo this year.

Williams and Andrews are part of Australia’s Paris (2024 Olympics) and Beyond water polo squad with Bears team-mates Bridget Leeson-Smith and Sophie Milliken.

They were joined by Eve Gath, Amelia Watt, Horatia Schlect, Abigail Houston (also in Australian Squads) and state players Amy Middlemas, Kate Klinge, Olivia Camelleri and Claudia Czernaiwski.

Bronze medals

North Brisbane Polo Bears’ men won Delphina Premier League bronze at the weekend with an 18-15 victory over Kawana Wolves. Carina took the title.

Polo Bears’ scorers were: Dylan McDonald 6; James Kininmoth, Kobe Jennison and Jack French two apiece; Fraser Duguid, William Valentine, Marcus Berehulack, Marcus Buchanon, Matthew Bonser and Each Tapp one each.

Players now return to Brisbane Water Polo Inc ((BWPI) competition with eight rounds completed and eight more to be completed after Christmas.
