Vodafone Warriors back rower Bayley Sironen sat down with Moreton Daily to share his thoughts on his temporary home in the Moreton Bay Region and revealed his favourite coffee shop...
Debuted with the Tigers in 2017 before moving to Souths a couple of years later and joining the Warriors in 2021.
Sironen said he and the rest of the squad were enjoying the stability their 2022 home base at Redcliffe was providing after an unsettled couple of years.
“It’s a bit easier for me as I don’t have a wife or kids that I need to think about as well. I know it was tough for people with families last year not knowing if we were up and moving in a week’s time,” he said.
“I think I stayed in seven or eight different places last year, which was a new experience for me but it’s all part of it. There’s a lot of people doing it a lot worse off than us.
“It is nice having a bit of stability this year and living in a beautiful part of the world as well. There’s no complaints.”
The side played their first trial game against Melbourne last weekend and are looking forward to facing the Titans at Moreton Daily Stadium on February 26.
“Preseason’s hard every year for every team but I especially feel like this year we’ve put a lot of work in and I think it’s showing. The boys are hitting career-best body compositions and fitness targets as well,” Sironen said.
“We’ve put ourselves in good stead to start the year. It’s exciting.
“Hopefully we’ll get a good crowd. That would be awesome to get the community of Redcliffe around us.
“We just want to work on what we’ve been practising throughout our preseason as well. I think we play the Titans pretty early on anyway so we don’t want to give too much away structure-wise but it will be good to get some match fitness and put into practise what we’ve been doing in training.”
Favourite player growing up: (no it’s not his Dad, the legendary Paul Sironen!) "I was a Wests Tigers fan growing up and used to go to a lot of the games, so Benji Marshall was probably my favourite player. He changed the game, the way he played it and was so exciting to watch."
Best place to go for run in region: "Down around Woody Point is beautiful and anywhere near the water."
Favourite coffee spot: "Over There Café. I think the boys are there every day getting cajun wraps and coffees."
Goal this season: "I’d like to have an injury-free year and try to play every game. I haven’t been able to do that in my career so far. Obviously, finals is our team goal, it’s an expectation this year to make the eight and stay fit."
