Paving the way for smoother roads

Almost $16 million in road resurfacing contracts have been awarded across the Moreton Bay Region, ahead of Council’s 2021-22 Budget, which is due for release next week.

Mayor Peter Flannery says the works will be completed by two companies - Narangba contactor Suncoast Asphalt and the Downer Group.

“All roads lead to Moreton Bay Region and we want to keep trucking on with our road resurfacing program, so you’ll be seeing these costs as a line item when the 2021-22 Budget is handed down next week,” Mayor Flannery says.

“This $15.8 million program will see an incredible 81km of roads resurfaced, covering 173 individual projects, which is more than the distance from Samford to Bribie Island.

Maintenance a priority

“These works ultimately increase vehicle safety and the roads’ structural rideability by improving pavement surface quality and reducing recurrent maintenance.”

Mayor Flannery says the region’s roads are one of Council’s most critical and expensive assets, which is it is important to prioritise their maintenance.

“These works help make our streets smoother, safer and more enjoyable to use every day, while getting residents home quicker.

“Projects being delivered span the region, from the recently completed $1.5 million Caboolture Industrial Estate, to the $1.38 million Duffield Rd, Clontarf and $474,000 Wruck Crescent, Albany Creek.”

Mayor Flannery says the region’s road resurfacing program incorporates the use of standard and environmental mix designs.

“Using recycled materials such as crushed glass, and recycled plastics and asphalt; we’re paving the way for greener roads,” he says.
