New season, new goals

New season, new goals

Redcliffe Leagues Netball Association (RLNA) is about to launch a new season with bold plans on and off the courts.

Online registrations are already open, the RLNA representative season for Under 12-15s starts on Monday, trials for the Queensland Premier League begin on Tuesday and the 2021 sign-on is February 13.

Last year RLNA’s canteen at KR Benson Park, off Maine Rd, was refurbished. Later this year work will be done on disabled access for the amenities block and car park.

Court plans

Approaches have also been made to Federal Member for Petrie Luke Howarth and State Member for Redcliffe Yvette D’Ath to help get the courts refurbished.

“We would love to have the courts redone, they are in desperate need,” says RNLA President Kristy Page, “but it’s $900,000 and will need Federal and State funding.”

RLNA will also be expanding its Wednesday night social competitions this season after 30 teams, the biggest yet, entered the hugely successful Twilight tournament last spring.

Social success

The new Summer competition begins on February 24 for six weeks, then Winter and then Twilight again in the spring.

“Coming off the back of that, we thought we’d offer it earlier, instead of waiting until May and give everyone an extra season to play,” says Christy.

The RLNA’s regular season will run Netball Queensland’s NetSetGO (Net for ages 5-6, Set for those 7-8, GO for ages 9-10), then further teams up to the age of 16.

More players

RLNA Competition Director Bianca Webb says player numbers “held up well” last year after the initial impact of COVID-19 last year.

“Now we’re hoping to attract a few more young players (to NetSetGO),” she says. “come along to meet new kids, make friends and meet other families., then go on to the next program after that.”
