New park is out-of-this-world

A new space-themed playground at Westminster Park in Bellmere will open this week.

Urban Play worked with Moreton Bay Regional Council to transform the playground as part of its playground upgrades.

A spaceship tower stands more than five metres high and offers themed play for children of all ages and abilities on the corner of Westminster Rd and Piccadilly St, Bellmere.

Slides and nets

Three slides, climbing nets, viewing windows, space-themed graphics and manipulative play panels will keep little astronauts entertained for hours.

A Mars Explorer Rover car, spinning bowl and Birds Nest swing are other attractions for youngsters.

“Council is going where no man has gone before with its new playground offerings, so that Moreton Bay Region is the best place for children to live and grow,” says Mayor Peter Flannery.

Big budget

“We’ve increased our investment into parks and the environment to $57.8 million in this year’s budget, so our public spaces are ahead of population growth.

“And, of course, this is great news for parents to be able to take the kids down to their closest park and let off some steam.”

Councillor Tony Latter (Div 12) says his family wants to test out the new Mars Explorer Rover car at Westminster Park.

Space travel

“The galactic theme of this playground really elevates the park into a local destination for families to come picnic and play,” he says.

“My kids are fascinated by the idea of outer space travel, so this will have their imaginations running wild.

“Unique design like this is important to keep all our parks and playgrounds fresh and interesting for all user to enjoy for many years to come.”

Westminster Park is due to open on Friday, February 12 on the corner of Westminster Rd and Piccadilly St, Bellmere. It has a shaded table, barbecue, footpaths and greenspace.
