New COVID case in Queensland

New COVID case in Queensland

One locally-acquired COVID case has been discovered in Queensland over the last 24 hours. Two others in hotel quarantine.

Dr Jeannette Young, Queensland’s Chief Health Officer, said the locally acquired case was not linked to any other clusters.

The new case is a Mareeba woman in her 20s who is studying in Melbourne and recently visited the Sunshine Coast. She came back to Queensland for the holiday break.

Dr Young said the woman travelled to Maroochydore on July 13 and was then contacted as she has been at a Victorian hotspot, the Young and Jackson pub, on July 10.

The woman visited Shine Coast Plaza shopping centre and was at the Rice Boi restaurant at the Wharf in Mooloolaba on July 15.

She is reported to have been in the community while infectious from July 15-17.

Deputy Premier Steven Miles said it was “absolutely critical anyone who has travelled to NSW, Victoria and now South Australia monitor websites for contact locations and follow directions and monitor their health closely.

“Now is not the time to be holidaying interstate. If you have plans to holiday please reconsider them.”

Queensland currently has 1761 cases. In the last 24 hours, 9311 tests were done and 10,447 vaccines administered. Queensland is expected to pass two million vaccines this week.
