Residents will go head-to-head in a lights display of epic and electric proportions during the inaugural Moreton Daily Christmas Lights in Moreton Bay Region competition.
Nominations are now open for the competition, which has a prize pool of $24,000, and close on December 5. It’s free to enter.
Displays must be within the Moreton Bay Region and visible from 7-9.30pm every night during the judging period, December 6-19.
Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism (MBRIT) Chairman Shane Newcombe, publisher of Moreton Daily, says the region has been crying out for its own competition and he’s thrilled it’s happening this year.
“We want to light up the region and bring smiles to faces, young and old, after what has been a challenging year for many,” Mr Newcombe said.
“There are so many displays each year across the region deserving of recognition, from family homes to apartment blocks and businesses. We want to shine a light on their efforts and give them the chance to win not only bragging rights but generous cash prizes.
“The competition will also make it easier for residents and visitors to the region who want to take a tour of the best displays, with an interactive map on our website.
“They can also vote for their favourite in our People’s Choice category for the chance to win $1000, thanks to USC.”
The People’s Choice voting and judging period opens on December 6 and closes on December 19.
The winners of all categories will be announced at Pine Rivers Carols on December 19.
Mr Newcombe is urging residents and businesses across the region to join in the fun and spread some Christmas cheer this year.
“Forget about decking the halls! Deck the eaves, gardens, roofs and the front of your homes and businesses,” he said.
“It’s a bit of fun that brings joy to others and often brings communities together as neighbours and visitors pop over to check out displays and for a chat. It’s pretty special and we’re very proud to be bringing this regionwide competition to life.”
