Man gifts partner $100,00 Scratch-Its win after forgetting birthday!

A Bray Park man may have forgotten his partner’s birthday, but he found the perfect way to make it up to her – gifting her an Instant Scratch-Its ticket that won $100,000.

The top prize winning $5 Crosswords Sea Life ticket was bought at Kensington Village Newsagency, in Kensington Village Shopping Centre, Bray Park.

Sharing their excitement with an official from The Lott this morning, the man admitted a bad day had been turned around by their instant win.

“Well, it’s kind of a funny story,” the winning woman said.

Better than expected!

“It started off as a not-so-great day. It was my birthday, but my partner actually forgot what day it was and hadn’t realised. He thought my birthday was the next day.

“He felt really bad, so, he ended up giving me a card with some money and some scratchies. He said he wanted me to spoil myself, and then hopefully, I would have a win so I could spoil myself even more.

“Which turned out to be better than expected! He’s no longer in the bad books!

“At first, when we scratched it, we thought I’d won $750. But then we kept checking it and thought it was a $10,000 win.

'We hid it'

“After that, we hid it. We didn’t want to lose it. But the next day, we had to double-check it because we still couldn’t believe it.

“That’s when my partner told me it was a $100,000 win. I just kept saying, ‘No, I don’t believe you! No, truly?’. I went into shock after that.

“Even though I checked it so many times, I still didn’t believe it. I have never won anything in my life, not one thing. It’s amazing!

“We did celebrate. We had a nice dinner, and we brainstormed what we’d do with the prize.

'Blown away'

“I am still blown away! I am so shocked! I don’t know how I am going to top this gift when it’s his birthday.

“There’s a few things we’d like to do around the house, and we’d also like to upgrade our car. We will certainly put it to good use!”

Kensington Village Newsagency owner Paul Draw said he was ecstatic to have another big Instant Scratch-Its win at his outlet.

“We are absolutely delighted! It’s fabulous news all round,” he said.

Big wins

“We’ve had so many big wins here lately. The other day we also had a customer win $10,000 on an Instant Scratch-Its ticket and now this.

“It’s incredible. We actually feel so lucky, and we really hope to be able to deliver more big wins to our customers in the future.”

This financial year, there were 176 Instant Scratch-Its top prize winners across The Lott’s jurisdictions who took home more than $14.17 million.
