Lease agreement saves Caboolture group thousands

Lease agreement saves Caboolture group thousands

Five community organisations will benefit from a new lease deal signed by Moreton Bay Regional Council.

Council has granted the Caboolture groups peppercorn leases of $1 a year to rent space within the PCYC precinct in Toovey St.

Caboolture PCYC has held a lease with Council for the site since 1992, and has sub-let the site to a number of other community organisations - Reclink Australia, Better Together, Friends of Lagoon Creek and the local Lions Club.

Mayor Peter Flannery says it is important to provide the organisations with operational certainty, so the lease arrangements will remain in place for the next five years.

Separate leases

“Each occupant at the site now has separate lease where they pay just $1 per year to Council, saving them tens of thousands of dollars in operational costs each year,” Mayor Flannery says.

“Council grants peppercorn leases to hundreds of community groups and clubs to take the financial burden off operating costs so instead of fundraising, they have more time doing what they do best - assisting our community.

Helping the community

Mayor Flannery says Reclink, which has paid $27,600 a year to lease its building from PCYC, has been helping the community through its ‘Rebuilding Lives through Sport and Arts’ and ‘Skilling Queenslanders for Work’ programs.

“Better Together provides employment opportunities and advocates for people with a disability and the Lions Clubs’ ‘Recycle for Sight’ program distribute old glasses to disadvantaged people at no expense.

“It was a no-brainer to provide a space for each of these groups at a minimal cost and it’s just a small way Council can help them continue their amazing work with security and certainty.”
