Unbeaten Caboolture boxer Ethan Law could add another belt to his growing collection when he steps into the ring next month.
Law will face Luke Woods for the vacant Australian super welterweight title on Tasman Fighters’ Gold Coast Fight Night II in Broadbeach on October 23.
Woods, from Tasmania, replaces Adam Stowe who, being based in NSW, is unable to cross the state border due to COVID restrictions.
Law, 20, was to defend his Australasian middleweight title, but can now go for the Australian National Boxing Federation (ANBF) belt relinquished by Ben Mahoney.
Woods, 28, has won two and lost four of his professional fights, while Law has five wins from five pro bouts. Only one has gone the distance.
Trainer Dwayne Tindall, from the not-for-profit Body Shot Boxing Club at World Gym Burpengary, said he was “very confident” in taking the fight.
“We’ll make a few changes but not much,” said Tindall, “Stowe and Woods are both southpaw, Woods is also more of a boxer.”
Law has been in a pre-fight camp for months after his last two bouts were postponed due to the impacts of COVID.
“He’s young and a special kid - five fights, five wins, four knock outs. He’s been sparring hard and will be ready for this one,” Tindall said of his man’s preparations.
“Ethan doesn’t get carried away. He fights who his promoter (Tasman Fighters) puts in front of him and doesn’t back away.”
Law, born, schooled and living in Caboolture, is from a boxing family - his cousin being Deception Bay Boxing Club’s Waylon Law, an ex-Australian super lightweight champion.
In fact, Ethan Law used the Deception Bay club while Body Shot was setting up at World Gym Burpengary where he trains three times a day, when not working.
