Law aiming to melt ‘Iceman’

Law aiming to melt ‘Iceman’

The Moreton Bay Region may have a new Australian champion this weekend when Deception Bay Boxing Club star Waylon Law climbs into the ring at Eatons Hill Hotel.

It is one of the main events on Saturday’s Straight Outta ISO double header, with daytime (noon) and evening (7pm) shows. Both sold out in just three hours.

Law, whose nickname is The Outlaw, will take on Justin “Iceman” Frost, from Brisbane, for the Australian super lightweight title.

Very good chance

“It’s a 50:50 fight between two good boxers,” says Deception Bay Boxing Club trainer Damian Smith, “but I think he has a very good chance.”

This will be Law’s second shot at an Australian title. He has also been a WBC Asia Pacific Champion, was in the 2014 Fight of the Year and has won 11 of 17 fights.

Deception Bay’s Matt ‘Damage’ Hartmann, who has won four and drawn four of nine fights, will make a mandatory defence of his Queensland middleweight crown against Declan Kelly on the same fight card.

Club debut

Meanwhile, James ‘Left Hook’ Langridge is making his debut for Deception Bay Boxing Club in his 11th fight and trainer Damian Smith is “quietly confident” of success.

This will be the first outing for Deception Bay’s boxers since the lockdown and both of Saturday’s shows will be screened on EpicentreTv.

Deception Bay Boxing Club has its own show on October 24 at Redcliffe Leagues Club entitled Unfinished Business 2.0, referring to the shutdown when COVID struck.
