Bikers from across the region and beyond are being invited to join the first Bite Markets Toy Run.
Organisers are hoping 100 bike enthusiasts will meet at the southbound BP Service Station on the Bruce Highway at Burpengary on Saturday November 20.
All will be asked to pay a $10 entry fee and bring an unwrapped gift which will be donated to the Leukaemia Support Queensland (LSQ).
Members of LSQ will then deliver the toys to the Caboolture, Redcliffe and Queensland Children’s Hospitals with mascot Leukey Bear
The aim is to put smiles on the faces of sick children this Christmas – and in the future with the Toy Run becoming an annual event.
“First time I met Jane (McMillan, LSQ president) I said if there’s anything I can do to help, let me know,” Paul Norris, owner of It’s A Wing Thing and Sliders at Bite Markets, said.
However, the idea of an annual toy run came from his childhood.
“I saw runs like this as a kid and I remember watching bikers doing it. That was obviously before I had a bike,” Mr Norris said.
“We have about 200 interested in taking part so far. I was handing out leaflets and one guy said he’d have 25 bikers coming along, which would be great. We’re aiming for 100.”
The Toy Run will leave the southbound BP service station about 2.30pm and go along Deception Bay Rd and Anzac Ave to Petrie, along Beeville Rd, take in Narangba Valley, Oakey Flat Rd to Morayfield, down King St in Caboolture and the highway to Bike Markets at North Harbour.
There, the bikes will be on display with nominations taken for favourite bike and trophies for the best Harley Davidson, best non-Harley and People’s Choice.
Donations have already been received from local retailers and drop-off points are being arranged for the public who may wish to donate.
Mr Norris said bikers may also be able to collect donated toys during the ‘run’.
