Residents and community groups can still be part Police Remembrance Day in the Mango Hill North Lakes area – despite COVID-19.

Father Dan Berris, Minister at The Lakes Anglican Church in Mango Hill and a volunteer police chaplain, has a virtual plan to overcome the restrictions.

At present, there will be no public services on Police Remembrance Day, September 29, but Fr Dan will hold services for staff inside the stations.

Show support

For those services, he plans to take recorded messages of thanks and support from the community to show the officers.

The idea started during a conversation Fr Dan had with the previous Mango Hill North Lakes Police Station Officer-in-Charge Senior Sergeant Shane Hancock.

“One of the things which is very important is giving thanks for police officers who lost their lives and those serving our community now,” says Fr Dan.

“I’d gathered videos for months (during lockdown) for services, we thought why not do it in a similar way for the police? It is something I can then take into the station.”

Recorded messages

Mango Hill Progress Association recorded a short rousing message at the end of their September monthly meeting.

Students at Mango Hill State School have also recorded a message and sent it to Fr Dan who is hoping for more than half a dozen to show officers on Tuesday.

More videoed messages of thanks for the work of our local police are welcome. Email Fr Dan at dan@thelakesanglican.org.au
