It’s Redcliffe Hospital Giving Day

Redcliffe Hospital Giving Day, today, will be launched with a significant donation from local hoteliers, Lewis Leisure Group, owners of The Belvedere and The Komo Hotels.

In partnership with Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) Foundation, the inaugural Redcliffe Hospital Giving Day aims to raise funds for life-changing hospital-led health research, evidence-based patient care, staff well-being, innovative equipment and other initiatives.

Thanks to the generosity of matched donors, including The Komo and The Belvedere, every donation made by Giving Day will be doubled. To donate, visit or phone 1300 363 786.

RBWH Foundation CEO Simone Garske says the level of business and community support has been overwhelming.

“Redcliffe Hospital Giving Day is the first major campaign by Raise it for Redcliffe Hospital – a partnership between Redcliffe Hospital and RBWH Foundation,” Ms Garske says.

“The community had been expressing a desire to give back to the hospital because of the vital role it plays in the community. It’s where their babies are born, emergencies are treated, and family and friends cared for in times of need.”

Patient Eleanor Hann, who spent six months at Redcliffe Hospital being treated for Guillain-Barré Syndrome, has been invited back for the official opening and will add a personal message of support to the Giving Day Gratitude Tree.

Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is an autoimmune disorder which attacks a person’s nerves. It left Eleanor temporarily paralysed. Although Eleanor can now walk short distances, it’s unknown if she’ll make a full recovery.

“We’re taking one day at a time, but the whole experience at Redcliffe Hospital was fantastic. The staff there are like my second family,” Eleanor says.

A highlight of the day will be the completion of a 500km penny farthing challenge by Redcliffe Hospital Director of Research and Medical Education Dr Joel Dulhunty.

Dr Dulhunty will end his marathon at the 99.7 Bridge FM Giving Day Radiothon, outside their studios at Anzac Ave.

During the past few weeks, Dr Dulhunty attracted plenty of attention - and donations –as he rode 50 times around Redcliffe Hospital and five times across the Ted Smout Memorial Bridge.

Major donations include:

• The Komo and The Belvedere Hotels, Ballycara care services, GKS Law and Redcliffe Hospital Research Giving Circle signing as matched donors, ensuring every dollar donated will be doubled.

• Dominos ‘Doughraiser’: six local stores donating a $1 for every pizza sold on Giving Day.

• RAMS Home Loans, Moreton, donating $100 for every new home loan approved before December 31.

• Hospital staff holding fundraising activities.
