Highway upgrade - what's planned this month

Highway upgrade - work planned this month

The $163 million Bruce Highway upgrade at Deception Bay will see work impacting all five roads, which are part of the interchange, during May.

Construction of a second bridge over the highway has started with piling underway and earthworks continuing.

Noise walls are being built between the highway and Old Gympie Rd and the northbound entry ramp is expected to open mid-year.

However, traffic conditions have changed and there will be no pedestrian or bike access until the second bridge is open.

Entry ramp

Along Deception Bay Rd, drainage and water mains are being installed and construction will continue on the southbound highway entry.

The Eastern Service Rd will see earthworks, drainage, roadside barriers, median strip construction and landscaping during this month.

Similarly, there will be landscaping, drainage and pavement construction along New Settlement Rd, with some nightwork.

The intersection of Old Gympie Rd, Deception Bay Rd and New Settlement Rd will see asphalt being put down, lights and traffic signals installed and concrete work.

Traffic control

Across the site, traffic control will see reduced speed limits, temporary lane closures, detours and minor traffic disruptions. Traffic controllers may be present.

Nightwork is likely to increase along with noise and dust during this phase of the project.

When finished, the upgrade will see two new bridges over the highway, upgrades to two signal intersections, bigger highway entry and exit ramps and new footpaths and cycle ways.
