Goal-den day for Goldie

Goal-den day for Goldie

The battle for the Goldie Cup resumes on Sunday with two of the Moreton Bay Region’s football clubs teaming up to support Nathan Goldstiver, picture above second from left.

‘Goldie’ played for North Pine and Narangba Eagles in the Brisbane City Leagues for many years, but is now tackling motor neurone disease.

To support the Goldstiver family, North Pine and Narangba last year launched the Goldie Cup which raised more than $5000.

Goldie is back

The family will head back to Harris Ave Sports Complex, Narangba on Sunday (January 31) for the second staging of the Goldie Cup.

“Goldie deserves all we can kick in as a community to assist him and his young family,” says friend, fellow player and ‘Goldie Cup’ coordinator, Malcolm Van de Graaff of Narangba Eagles.

“Last year’s focus was on raising funds. This year the main thing is getting football and family together; funds raised will of course assist the family.

Stand together

“The ‘Goldie Cup’ is a time when the two clubs, Narangba Eagles and North Pine, put competition aside and stand together for the best show of camaraderie and community support for footballing families.

“It also provides a pre-season local derby between the senior men’s players and we invite the wider community to attend in a show of support for Goldie.”

There will be three games - Under 18s at 1pm, Capital League 2 Reserves at 3pm, Capital League 2 Seniors at 5pm.

Gold coin

A gold coin entry, percentage of bar and canteen sales and proceeds from raffles and donations will go to the Goldstiver family.
