Glamour night for region's first disability ball

Glamour night for region's first disability ball

Preparations for the region’s first Disability Ball of its kind are coming on in Leaps & Bounds.

In fact, it was the team at Leaps & Bounds Disability Services, in Caboolture South, which came up with the idea.

They noticed few social platforms for adults with disabilities in the Moreton Bay Region and started planning the ball, which is on November 13.

“We found a lot of our adult customers we support once leaving school, didn't have many ways of meeting new people unless they were engaged in a community support service,” speech pathologist Sarah Montgomery said.

“Several of our families often said one of their only community engagements was coming to therapy.

“We want to run a community event where not only our families, but others in the community, can step outside their comfort zone and meet new people.

“We are hoping the ball will allow people to make new connects within the community and widen their social networks.”

Glamour will be the theme of the fun night with ball dresses and suits the order of the day.

Red carpet

There will be a DJ, red carpet, photobooth, finger food and a soft drink/juice bar. It will be an alcohol-free event.

The Disability Ball is being held at Morayfield Sports and Events Centre on Saturday November 13 from 6.30-10.30pm.

It is open to anyone over 18 with a disability – and a parent or support worker if needed.

Tickets are $25 and available from Leaps & Bounds Disability Services clinic, 5/107 Morayfield Rd, Caboolture South.

Leaps and Bounds Disability Services provides therapeutic support for people of all ages specialising in the care of individuals with complex presentations.
