Get ready to celebrate Australia Day

The Moreton Bay Region will host two big Australia Day events, with live entertainment, free and low-cost activities, mechanical surfboard and spectacular fireworks finale.

Families across the region and South East Queensland are invited to Australia Day in Moreton Bay on January 26 from 4-8pm at Scarborough Beach Park, Scarborough, and Brennan Park, Bongaree.

Both locations will provide a stunning backdrop for an afternoon of fun, with Scarborough hosting the event for the first time after a move from Suttons Beach at Redcliffe.

Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism (MBRIT) CEO Shane Newcombe is excited about the event’s new home.

“Scarborough is one of the most beautiful areas in the region and is the perfect setting to celebrate Australia’s national holiday,” Mr Newcombe says.

“I encourage local and visiting families to come along with chairs and blankets, and enjoy an afternoon of talented local musicians, free and low-cost activities.”

Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor Peter Flannery says Scarborough Beach Park is one of the region’s most popular destinations.

“Hosting an iconic event like Australia Day is a wonderful opportunity to showcase this stunning jewel in the crown of the Redcliffe Peninsula,” Mayor Flannery says.

“I know the Scarborough community will be bursting with pride at the chance to host the party on their beach.”

Event organisers recently announced solo performer, Alex Kosenko, duo act, Scarlett Gunner, and bands Souled and Lost Safari Band all confirmed as part of the live program at Scarborough.

The Bribie Island event at Bongaree, will also have a seaside backdrop for traditional Australia Day beach activities.

Event organisers are encouraging visitors to bring along a picnic blanket and chairs, pack some food supplies to use at the park’s barbecue facilities or drool over the variety of food trucks and local restaurants on site.

Be COVID-safe

Event organisers will be implementing COVID-safe practices at both events and ask people to stay home if they are feeling unwell or have been advised to isolate.

People attending the events are asked to wear a mask where possible. There will be plenty of room to social distance at these free, outdoor events.

Where to park

Bongaree event: From 2-9pm on Australia Day, Toorbul St will be closed from First Ave to South Esplanade, including a partial road closure of South Esplanade. Diversions will be in place. Parking will be available in surrounding streets.

Scarborough event: Parking will be available in Scarborough Beach Park carpark and surrounding streets.

These Australia Day events are proudly delivered by Moreton Bay Region Industry & Tourism (MBRIT) and supported by Moreton Bay Regional Council.
