Flour and chocolate is coming …

Four and chocolate is coming …

Winning $20,000 set Kylie and Lachlan Scott on a path to realise their dream of opening their own business. It resulted in two popular Flour and Chocolate patisserie outlets, with a third opening at Redcliffe soon.

It’s a dream they’d held since 2006 to combine the talents of baker and pastry chef Lachlan and Kylie’s skills in retail management.

“We always felt that together, we could create that special place our customers could come and enjoy the food and service that we offered,” Lachlan explains.

“In 2011, I was working full-time as a baker and Kylie was a stay-at-home mum looking after our two young boys aged two and five. I received a call at work from Kylie saying that she had just won 20k on 'I Wake Up With Today on Channel 9'.

“That moment was the opportunity that we needed to get our big dream off the ground and really happening.”

So, in December they signed a lease to open their first patisserie at Morningside in February 2012.

Hard work pays off

The business has steadily grown to a second outlet at Northgate and the couple is preparing to open a third at Redcliffe in April, off Suttons St.

“We are very excited to be opening in Redcliffe. We feel that handmade quality pastries, cakes and sandwiches well received by the locals and tourists and add another element to the Redcliffe area,” Lachlan says.

“Redcliffe will also have pressed sandwiches made from the ground up. Our bread, our smoked and roasted meats and fillings, put together by our talented chefs each day.”

Jobs at new store

Lachlan and Kylie expect to need about 20 staff across the working week at Redcliffe, once they are a full speed.

They have already started employing staff and commenced training at their Northgate store.
