Boost for region's flood-hit residents

Figuring out how to help flood-hit customers

Unitywater is investigating ways it can help flood-affected households across this region.

The utility is currently working with Moreton Bay Regional Council, Sunshine Coast Council and Noosa Shire Council to gather “relevant data”.

This will show which customers were hardest hit by last month’s flooding and what assistance Unitywater may be able to provide.

It follows an appeal last week by Acting Mayor Jodie Shipway to waive excess water charges for those involved in the big clean-up.

“We are continuing to analyse this data to ensure our approach is fair and prudent to all our customers across our service region of Moreton Bay, Noosa and the Sunshine Coast,” Executive Manager Customer and Community Katherine Gee said.

Takes time

“This process takes time and we will share more information once we confirm how we will be able to assist.

“In the meantime, we encourage any customers concerned about their bill to contact us to discuss their options.”

Some residents were worried about the amount of water they used to wash yards, garages and in some cases entire houses after the floods.

Others assisted neighbours, again using their own hoses and water, to clean-up their properties.

Acting Mayor Shipway said there were also reports of residents cleaning council footpaths and public infrastructure.
