Family first, then business – the motto behind VC Fruit Market

VC Fruit Market in Ferny Grove spreading kindness to those in need and they want their customers to do the same thing.

This fruit and vegetable market may be busy as shoppers turn to local businesses to stock their pantries and fridges, but the family running it knows many of their customers are struggling in tough times.

Aman Chaudhari, of VC Fruit Market at Ferny Hills, says they have been putting together free fruit and vegetable boxes for people in need for the past four years in conjunction with St Vincent de Paul, but have now upped the ante.

The family put out a call on social media on March 30, urging those doing it tough to pop in and ask for a free box of produce.

Aman says they are filling a few every day, and many customers are ‘paying it forward’ – giving money to put towards the cost of produce for someone in need.

The shop also has a long-established food pantry, where customers can donate non- perishable foods for people in need.

“There’s no-one that should go hungry in our area,” Aman says.

The business has also increased its home delivery service to help older customers, those who are self-isolating, or those nervous about leaving their homes.

“Because of COVID-19, we’ve opened up these deliveries to the broader community and to outer areas,” Aman explains.

Their delivery area now extends from The Gap to Samford to Albany Creek.

“We’re just asking for orders to be over $40 for free delivery, but it’s still free delivery for the elderly no matter what. We always say family first, then business. Our customers are part of our family,” he says.
