Nathan Goldstiver couldn’t wipe the smile from his face as he presented North Pine Football Club with the Goldie Cup trophy for 2021.

The event, in Nathan’s honour using his nickname ‘Goldie’, was played over a series of games on February 27 at Narangba Eagles, coordinated by friend Malcolm Van de Graaff.

In its second year, the Goldie Cup is a convergence of community for family and football, combining his mate Goldie’s two greatest loves.

For Goldie

Malcolm says these are what define Nathan rather than the ravages of the motor neurone disease which has rendered him unable to speak or play his beloved football.

On February 27, surrounded by family and the football fraternity, Nathan enjoyed his game as a spectator sport.

Goldie presided over the two supportive playing ‘tribes’, Narangba Eagles and North Pine football clubs, for which he has played, as they faced off over a series of matches.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better day with the weather and community input, an attendance of over 600 including special guests and such spirited play,” said Malcolm.

“The focus wasn’t as much on money as a good time for Goldie”.

Cup winners

Malcolm said $6500 was raised and paid credit to all contributors, thanking the Deputy Premier of Queensland Steven Miles, the State Member for Murrumba and Mayor Peter Flannery for their speeches.

Also State Member for Kurwongbah Shane King and Queensland Police Minister and State Member for Morayfield Mark Ryan for attending.

The Goldie Cup saw wins by Narangba Under 18s and North Pine Reserves before the final match, which saw North Pine Football Club take out the coveted Goldie Cup, 2021.
