Entry forms are now available for the 2022 Matthew Flinders Art Prize, which is run by the Bribie Island Community Art Centre (BICAS).
Now in its 24th year, the island art prize is an open exhibition, with no set categories and any medium except video.
First prize is $5000, second $2000, with two highly-commended prizes of $500 – a People’s Choice award and a BICAS Members’ prize.
Organising committee chairman Stephanie White said there would be art demonstrations every day during the exhibition of entries. Some would be with past prize winners.
The event is also being organised mindful of the issues and impact COVID and recent bad weather may have had on the community.
Full details are on the entry form which can be downloaded from the BICAS website bribieartscentre.com.au
Or can be collected from the arts centre at 191 Sunderland Dve, Banksia Beach, Tuesday to Saturday 9am–4pm and Sundays 9am–1pm. Phone 3408 9288.
Entry deadline is Sunday, June 26. Those entering by Sunday, June 19 save $5. Entries have to be delivered to the arts centre by July 5.
The entry fee is $40 per piece (BICAS members) and $50 non-members, with a maximum of two artworks each.
A gala opening night in the Matthew Flinders Gallery will be Friday, July 15, with the exhibition running until Saturday, August 6.
Before that, the varied works of 10 printmakers/artists will be on display in the 2022 Still Scratching exhibition at BICAS from March 22–April 10.
The works in this exhibition scratch the surface in a literal and metaphorical sense. Surfaces include paper, fabric, clay, timber and plastic.
