Driving ahead with new plans

G’day Adventure Tours owner Jason Brown is working on new attractions and markets for his Bribie Island business.

This includes working on the necessary approvals and permissions for an eco-friendly campsite on the island and ways to increase more domestic visitors.

It follows a rollercoaster year which began with around 60 per cent of G’day Adventure Tours’ customers coming from overseas.

Good start

At that time business was “looking very good,” says Jason, a finalist in the Visitor Experience category of last year’s Moreton Bay Business Excellence and Innovation Awards.

Cruise ships were arriving in Brisbane and passengers taking trips to the Sunshine Coast hinterland and Bribie. Flight Centre was also looking to sell G’day tours.

Then COVID-19 took hold, overseas tourists stopped and the Bribie-based business had to close down for “two-and-a-bit months”, says Jason.

Rain check

“We started again in June and through to August bookings picked up. It was slow to begin with, but we got back to about 30-40 per cent of where we were.”

October and November were “alright”, he says, but the December rain has impacted bookings in what is usually the busiest part of the tour company’s year.

Now Jason’s focus is on increasing the number of ‘domestic’, rather than overseas, visitors for his tours of Bribie, the fourth largest sand island in the world.

True-blue tours

Jason grew up on Bribie, has lived there for about 25 years. He knows the area well and loves showing visitors the beauty of the island.

G’day Adventure Tours operates fully-guided, fun, friendly tours of Bribie which is 34kms long and mostly national park.

Tours can include driving along the beach, visiting to World War II forts and kayaking to give “a true-blue Aussie experience worth remembering!”

Gift cards

G’day Adventure Tours operates seven days a week, excluding Christmas Day and Boxing Day. It offers gift cards and discounts for groups of 10 or more.
