North Harbour’s Heritage Park will be filled with the sounds of opera when Opera Queensland presents Songs at Twilight on Saturday, August 14.
Opera Queensland stars Sofia Troncoso and Timothy Newton will headline the free show which starts at sunset.
Tim Newton is a bass-baritone from Queensland, who grew up on the Gold Coast. He returned to Australia last year, after singing in the 2019-20 season at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin.
American soprano Sofia Troncoso, a recent addition to the Brisbane arts community, is an accomplished singer in styles including Mozart’s works, bel canto, and contemporary music.
Opera Queensland Artistic Director and CEO Patrick Nolan says creating opportunities to bring opera to Queensland communities is at the heart of the state opera company’s role.
“Events like Songs at Twilight at North Harbour allow us to connect with a broad range of audiences and communities across Queensland,” Mr Nolan says.
“We are proud to partner with North Harbour and look forward to engaging with and entertaining Heritage Park and the surrounding community.”
Gates open at 3.30pm and the event finishes at 6pm. There will be food trucks on site and Lady Musgrave Trust – an organisation that helps homeless women – will be running the bar. Visitors can also pre-purchase picnic hampers when they register online.
North Harbour Project Director Bryan Finney says: “Songs at Twilight is our first concert event at North Harbour and we are very pleased to be bringing wine and song to our Heritage Park with Opera Queensland.
“This is a unique event for this area and we hope it is the first of many to come.”
Guests are asked to bring camp chairs and picnic rugs and must register online as it is a COVID-Safe event.
Entry is free.
