Your chance to back the Dolphins’ NRL bid

DOLPHINS LAUNCH ARTICLE - ADD CONTENT HERE

Today, Moreton Daily is turning red as we launch a grassroots, community campaign to get the Dolphins over the line in their bid to win the 17th NRL licence.

Moreton Daily, in partnership with the Dolphins and Moreton Bay Regional Council, is mobilising the community to back to bid and show the Australian Rugby League Commission (ARL) how much we want an NRL team right here in the Moreton Bay Region.

It’s your chance to be part of history, take the pledge, show your support and turn the region red on Friday, May 21.

There’s never been a more important time to back the mighty Dolphins.

How to get involved

The Moreton Daily website is turning red from 10am today, kick-starting a two-week community campaign.

High-profile supporters of the club have recorded messages of support and we’re calling on the community to pledge theirs via the website and by wearing red to work on Friday, May 21.

Rally your work crew, dress up your office and snap a photo or video of your Dolphins pride and post it to social media with the hashtag #DolphinsNRLready, so we can see it. Want to join in the fun and be in the running for great prizes? Head here

It’s your chance to be part of history and bolster the Dolphins’ bid for the 17th NRL licence.

Why this matters

The man leading the Dolphins NRL Bid Terry Reader says community support is a vital part of the club’s case and will send a strong message to the ARL Commission, that the 17th team needs to be the Dolphins.

“We need to remind the ARL Commission how much we love rugby league in this part of South East Queensland, and show them a Dolphins team will have a passionate and loyal fan base from day one,” Mr Reader says.

“The club and our fans have been dreaming of this moment for more than 70 years. This is our chance to show the ARL Commission how much it means to this community.

“We want every business and every supporter in the Moreton Bay Region and beyond, to show their true colours by wearing red, or decorating their businesses in red on May 21.”

Mr Reader says the club is working hard on the bid to take the Dolphins to the next level.

“We’re ready for this, the community is ready for this and we’ll be doing everything we can to make it happen.”

Leaders pledge support

At the Moreton Bay Region Leaders’ Forum today, Defence Minister Peter Dutton, Deputy Premier Steven Miles and Mayor Peter Flannery signed a declaration of support for the Dolphins’ NRL licence bid alongside every politician, representing the region, from all three levels of government.

Mayor Peter Flannery says this is an emphatic display of what the region is willing to do to get the Dolphins over the try line.

“The Dolphins have been dreaming of this day for 70 years and their business case is compelling,” Mayor Peter Flannery says.

“But with ARL Commission Chairman Peter V’Landys announcing Expressions of Interest opening today, we wanted to ensure our bid and the resolve behind it is impossible to ignore."

Let’s make history

Moreton Bay Region Industry and Tourism Chairman and Moreton Daily’s publisher Shane Newcombe says this is our chance to help shape the region’s and the Dolphins’ destiny.

“This is our moment, our chance to tell the ARL how much we want this,” Mr Newcombe says.

“We have what the other bids don’t – a club with loyal supporters and a community that has backed it for more than 70 years.

“There’s never been a more important time to show your colours and your support for the mighty Dolphins. Let’s get this done.”
