COVID-19 Update:

COVID-19 Update:_6_July_2021

Queensland has recorded just one new case of COVID-19 overnight, with a further five cases detected among travellers from overseas in hotel quarantine.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk says the new community case is connected to the Alpha cluster and a close contact of a Sinnamon Park man whose case was announced yesterday.

"She lives at Kangaroo Point - she's in home quarantine," Ms Palaszczuk says.

The state currently has 49 active cases, Ms Palaszczuk says, with 22,218 tests conducted yesterday and 12,617 vaccinations delivered by Queensland Health.

"We need to make sure people are wearing their masks in the designated (local government areas)," she says.

"Use your check-in app and if you are unwell, get tested."

Nursing student positive

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young says the new case is a student nurse who trains at Griffith University and does placements at Logan Hospital.

"They have been on holidays since the 15th of June and we are just conforming that she hadn't been on campus since that time," Dr Young says.

She says the student, who had contact with the Sinnamon Park man on June 26, has not been on placement at the hospital since June 15, but did visit a patient for one hour on June 28, wearing a mask.

"We have already tested that person she spent time with and they have tested negative."

Dr Young says with the state experiencing a four-day lockdown during the period from June 26, she believes the risk to the community from the infected woman was minimal.

"I believe it is low risk, but we are of course taking it very, very seriously and looking at all potential exposure sites."

Get the check-in app

Health Minister and Member for Redcliffe Yvette D'Ath says businesses have a responsibility to customers and the community to download the state's check-in app.

"It's about keeping us all safe - your customers want to feel safe."
