In good news for the state, there has only been one new case of COVID-19 overnight - the mother of a 12-year-old Newport boy whose positive test result was announced yesterday.
In her update this morning, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk confirmed all three members of the family have the Delta strain circulating in Sydney at present and the mother has been in isolation and there is no risk to the community.
"This is fantastic news. This is exactly the type of news we wanted to hear today," she says.
There are now 48 active cases in Queensland and more than 13,000 tests were conducted in the past 24 hours. More than 14,000 people received a vaccine yesterday.
Ms Palaszczuk says Queensland Health will continue to closely monitor the situation in South East Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales.
As a result of Victoria's snap lockdown and growing outbreak, the state will be declared a hotspot from 1am Saturday, July 17. That means anyone who enters Queensland from Victoria after that time will need to go into hotel quarantine for 14 days.
Ms Palaszczuk is reminding people in 11 local government areas across South East Queensland, including the Moreton Bay Region, that restrictions remain in place and masks are compulsory until July 23.
She is also urging people to continue coming forward for testing, if they are unwell, and to check-in at venues when out and about.
"Thank you Queensland. You're doing a wonderful job. I'm proud of everyone and together we'll get through this," she says.
Chief Health Officer Dr Jeanette Young has thanked the Newport family for their assistance, after all three tested positive. It has been confirmed the boy contracted COVID-19 while in hotel quarantine and how this happened is now being investigated.
Dr Young says the boy had limited exposure in the community, and the father had 'minimal' exposure. The mother had 'virtually none'. Queensland Health has identified 62 contacts so far and is working through all of these.
"They (the family) have be so wonderful. They have done everything you could possibly hope of anyone to do," she says.
The airport worker, whose positive test result was announced yesterday, also has the Delta strain and is a supervisor at a boarding gate. CCTV footage is being used to identify close contacts.
Dr Young says she is convinced both cases are new outbreaks, reinforcing the need to continue restrictions for the next week. She says she will have a clear idea within seven days, if South East Queensland has avoided a serious outbreak and is urging the community to take the situation very seriously.
"Wearing masks makes a big difference, we know that," she says.
Health Minister Yvette D'Ath says Queenslanders returning from Victoria after 1am on July 17 will need a travel declaration and exemption, and will need to complete 14 days in hotel quarantine. Anyone flying in today, will also need a travel declaration and to follow Victoria's COVID-19 restrictions.
Mrs D'Ath is also reminding anyone who has travelled interstate to look for exposure sites from other states on the Queensland Health website, at least once a day.
"We ask everyone to comply and do the right thing," she says.
These are the venues Queensland Health has identified as possible exposure sites.
